E26 and E27 are closely related Edison screw lamp-base sizes, but shoppers should still confirm the exact product and socket specification before buying a fan light. The names refer to nominal screw-base dimensions, and regional fixtures, voltage requirements and product tolerances can differ.
For a lightweight bulb, people sometimes focus only on whether the threads appear similar. A ceiling fan light is different: it is larger, moves while operating and needs adequate clearance and a stable mounting point. Compatibility should therefore be checked more carefully.
What do E26 and E27 mean?
Both are Edison screw-style lamp bases. The number identifies the nominal diameter class of the screw fitting. E26 is commonly associated with North American lamp fittings, while E27 is widely used in many other markets. Their physical dimensions are close, but that does not mean every E26 fixture, E27 fixture and fan-light product should be treated as universally interchangeable.

Check the fan-light manufacturer’s documentation for explicit support. If the product is specified only as E27 and you are unsure about an E26 fixture, do not force the product into the socket.
